New York City, Sept. 11, 2001- Worst terrorist attack in US history. Four US planes hijacked, two collide into World Trade Center towers, one into Pentagon. Thousands of people killed.
Tuesday, four United States planes taking off on the east coast destined for L.A. were hijacked and used as flying bombs to take out the World Trade Center and parts of the Pentagon. President Bush declared it an act of terror and mass murder.
The first hijacked plane, American Airlines Flight 11, crashed into the upper part of the first World Trade Center at 7:45 a.m. central time. A second plane, United Airlines flight 175, crashed into the second tower of the World Trade Center 18 minutes later. The third plane hijacked, American Airlines flight 77, was crashed into the Pentagon at 11:43 a.m. The fourth plane, United Airlines flight 93, crashed in the woods in rural Pennsylvania at 12:10 p.m.
There were 266 people aboard the four hijacked planes. All on board were killed.
