ATF Overview

ATF: The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (ATF), enforces Federal laws and regulations related to alcohol, tobacco, firearms, explosives, and arson. The Bureau was recently placed under the U.S. Department of Justice and its goal is to reduce violent crime and protect the public though the regulation of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives through programs at the Federal, State, Local and International enforcement level.
The ATF is responsible, through delegation under 28 Code of Federal Regulations 0.130, for the enforcement of federal firearms, explosives and arson laws as well as the provisions of Title 18, United States Code with respect to violations involving alcohol and tobacco, (ATF).
