symbolism in as birds bring forth the sun

Symbolism is very evident in the story “As Birds Bring Forth the Sun.” The “cu mor glas,” or “big grey dog,” can be symbolic of life’s important traits. It is a symbol of fear, such as fear of death, and fear of the unknown. It also symbolizes destiny, the seemingly inevitable.
The dog represents destiny. Destiny, similar to fate, represents, it represents something that was meant to happen. The dog was destined to be with the man, and the man to the dog. The dog was destined to live after being run over by the wheel of a cart. It was destiny that allowed the dog to recover from that accident, and have puppies. It was also destiny, and fate, that lead the man to his death by the dogs, and the man’s two sons to their death. Maybe death was destined to the family, maybe death was an inevitable thing.
One of natures most dominate emotions is fear. The “big grey dog” symbolizes this important emotion, which is portrayed throughout this short stor...
