Articles of Confederation

The Articles of Confederation was the first attempt at establishing a national government in the New World. The Articles served the nation for a decade. What kind of government did they establish, and what was wrong with them that they had to be replaced? The Articles took a long time to adopt, and had thirteen articles. However, the New World could not run under this new government.
A committee of the Second Congress, a committee headed by John Dickinson, on July 12, 1776, first proposed the Articles of Confederation. On December 20, 1776 the Third Continental Congress finalized the Articles of Confederation. On November 15, 1777, The Articles of Confederation was originally proposed to the colonies. Because of the war with Britain and disagreements between the colonies, it took three and a half years to get final ratification of the Articles, which had to be ratified by each and every state.
