Antique and Modern Democracy.

Democracy implies the equality and dignity of all persons regardless of their position in society and regardless of their race, colour, sex, creed or religion. In a democracy everyone is considered equal in front of the law. The individual's human rights and liberties are amply safeguarded.

The Athenian model of democracy is direct or participative democracy. This model involved that every citizen had the responsabilities to participate directly and personally in the making of decisions. The decisions involved financial, military and foreign affairs.
