An Explanation of the American Policy-Making Process

The American policymaking process can be a long journey filled with bureaucratic red tape and back scratching, but can be simplified into five steps. Each step can have it’s own problems and holdbacks. The policymaking process affects all citizens of this country, but I am sure that most people have no idea what happens step by step as an issue moves toward becoming the standard policy. In this illustration, I will use the issue of human cloning.

When it becomes apparent that cloning will be done in this country, a number of groups will begin watching the issue very closely. Those that wish to capitalize on this new technology will say that this technique will give couples that are unable to have children of their own a chance to do just that, and it would help us to better understand early child development and possibly gain knowledge of how to prevent birth defects.
