Amrita book report

The novel Amrita is a humorous romantic comedy revolving around the modern and traditional manners in India. The author of Amrita is R. Prawer Jhabvala. “Amrita” was first copyrighted in 1955, and most recently copyrighted in 1987. I think the main reason the author wrote Amrita was to show the lifestyle and manners of Indian families from different social classes. Another reason that may have inspired the author to write this novel is to show how two people that think they’re in love can be misunderstood by themselves and others in great circumstances.
Amrita takes place in New Delhi, India. Amrita is a 15-year-old well-bred girl of upper class. She lives with her lazy, over-dramatic mother Radha, and Krishna SenGupta, a paying lodger and professor. Amrita’s father was a lawyer of a more lower class than Radha’s, but passed away.
