Amos and Andrew is a comedy that shows the devastating effect of the harsh reality of racism through the use of exaggerated stereotypes coinciding with highly probable situations. This comedy delivers a poignant message about the serious issue of race relations, but it does so in a humorous, satirical manner while at the same time exposing uncomfortable truths. Even the title Amos and Andrew is satirical in that it evokes the name of the controversial 1950s radio and television “Black” comedy, Amos and Andy.
Amos and Andy was about two African-American men who found themselves in one outrageous escapade after another, which were usually instigated by another character named Kingfish. It was controversial because several of the characters were seen as buffoons, and this offended a large segment of the African-American community at a time when there were no other images in the media to counteract the negative portrayals in Amo...
