I. History of alcohol
- Alcohol was first used in Babylon in 2200 B.C. for medicinal purposes
- Wine was used as a treatment for ailments such as a cough. Sweet wine with honey was used to treat all types of coughs
- Most of the liquor used today is derived because of the monks in the dark ages because they recorded all their research on alcohol.
- Through centuries of trading and traveling, alcohol finally found its way into the United States in the sixteenth century

II. Type of dependence
-Unfortunately, alcohol was not only used for medical purposes, but for social uses as well
- People began drinking alcohol for pleasure until they reached the point where they had to have it.
- This type of dependence is known as alcoholism.
- An alcoholic is a person who is dependent upon alcohol and cannot function without it
