In the modern world, especially in Taiwan, everyone is very selfish and everyone just pay attention to his or her own interests and benefits. And that¡¦s because what we are taught to be competent and competitive or to be the most superior in a group. From our childhood, competition has been the keynote of students in Taiwan when they are in the schools. And it is not difficult to understand that that¡¦s the result of the emphasis of ¡§competition.¡¨ So, we can see now even though in a national, free and open university which is full of open students and varieties of information, those issues of taking care of minor groups, the implement of fair rights, or learning to be respectful toward others are still less discussed and receive less attention. As a consequence, people are becoming indifferent to the minor groups who are inferior or to them or different from them, such as sissies, gays, lesbians, people who get AIDS, or the crippled.
