A Short Biography On Franco and His Role in Spain

General Francisco Franco was born on December 4th, 1892 in Galicia, Spain. He was born into a military family and attended the Toledo Infantry Academy for three years from 1907 to 1910. He was only 21 when he was commissioned to the Eighth Regiment and posted in Morocco in 1913. Though he was quite a small man, he soon proved to be a very influential speaker and military leader.
Franco rose quickly through the military ranks and became a general by 1926 at the age of 34. He stayed out of politics until he was ordered to put down a strike by coal miners in the Asturias that had created a soviet.
