Gene and Finny had their respective differences between each other throughout the story A Separate Piece, but were the best of friends nevertheless. Their ideas varied greatly when it came to academics, athletics, and general life activities. Despite these differences, the two did understand each other in the end.
Gene was a quiet kid, in contrast to Finny’s wild personality. Gene was often not the main attraction of the group when he was around. Finny, on the other hand, was the person who everyone paid attention to whenever there was a gathering.
