A Good Ruler

Throughout the generations there have been leaders amidst the common people. These individuals called themselves rulers. All these rulers, in one way or another, had to gain their knowledge from sources other than themselves. One of these influential sources was the thoughts and wisdom of philosophers. Two very well known philosophers were Plato and Machiavelli; both of which discussed the education and nature of a good ruler. Therefore, Plato and Machiavelli described ways a good ruler should be educated and natured, but in a dissimilar fashion.
As Plato goes on his hunt to define a good ruler, he creates the most ideal conditions. He feels that one of the most important virtues of a ruler, is that he should be just. “I must put it among the finest goods [justice], as something to be valued by anyone” (Morgan 55).
