This book A Child Called “It” by David Pelzer is a survival book. David Pelzer, the child, in A Child Called “It” has some rough times with his mother.

In the beginning he has a normal family and his mother loves him but soon all of that changes when his mother starts to drink. When she changes, David’s mother beats him & starves him. When David goes to school with no lunch, & when he comes to school in the morning he takes desserts and lunches from his classmates. When the principle finds out, he calls David’s mother and when David gets home she beats him.

One time his mother made him sit in the bathroom with the door closed and has a bucket of ammonia & Clorox was in it and he had a hard time breathing. Another time, his mother tells him he’s getting timed to do chores to get food and if he wasn’t on time she would kill him.
