In "Just Walk on By: A Black Man Ponders His Power to Alter Public Space" Brent Staples describes the scenes of his presence altering other¡¯s emotions. He details numerous accounts of people mistaking him for a thief or mugger. This reflects a problem existing in the society in which the author was living, racism, the widely and permanent concerned subject.
The author¡¯s appearance made the ¡°first victim¡± hastily escapes. At that time, he learned his ¡°inheritance¡±, A 'broad six-foot-two man with a beard a billowing hair¡¯ man alter the public space in ugly ways. And it¡¯s the first time someone else labeled him with a frightening stereotype, although he also felt confused; don¡¯t know the reason, for before he can offer an explanation others have escaped form him.
