“There is no pattern to who lives and dies in war” How do the characters in the novel view war differently? Discuss in relation to at least three main characters.

War is viewed differently in the novel by Scott Anderson by Mark, Talzani and Joaquin. Each of these characters has been affected in some way that has leaded them to view war as a different aspect in their own life. Mark’s views war differently based on the experiences he has come across. Joaquin, on the other hand has been affected from the patients he deals with, that suffer from the trauma of the war and is personal experiences. Talzani is another character that views war differently. Being a doctor that is always dealing with patients from the war and being a Kurd, that don’t stop fighting wars, has affected Talzani about his views on war.

In the novel, Mark Walsh, an accomplished war photographer, is always located either near or in a war. It is the cause of war that causes Mark to have a breakdown from the death of his friend Colin. “I didn’t know what to do, and he was just dying, dying forever…” (Pg: 233).
