"The Lumber Room" by Saki The primary interest of the story is the conflict, the battle and struggle between two different worlds. The world of children on one hand and the one of grown-ups on the other. The main character’s personality (Nicholas) also determines the type of story in which he is involved. I feel very identified with the character because he wants to claim for children’s rights and he is ready to show that adults can be wrong. The plot is not so important because most of the actions are not external, they happen in Nicholas’ mind. The time (between the 20s – 30s) is more important than the place in which the story takes place. This is because in those times it was thought that adults were the wiser and better people, the ones who enjoyed from privileges. But nowadays it is very different because older people are not longer respected as they used to be. Actually the lumber room is also important, it was a place which children could not enter.
