"Othello"

“Othello” by William Shakespeare

The tragic tale of William Shakespeare’s great warrior, “Othello” is a world renowned story of back biting, envy and greed, in which the protagonist characters are so greatly consumed with spite and jealousy, that they go so far as destroying their own lives to obtain revenge. Shakespeare’s innovative use of the archaic English language coupled with his captivatingly sinister characters, immediately sets the stage, for one of the most famous plots ever put into print.

From the outset Shakespeare details an intriguing situation, through his dexterous use of figurative language. Metaphors, in particular, are used to great effect by Shakespeare, when Roderigo and Iago are claiming their grievances with “the Moor”, to Brabantio.
