“It is sometimes said that because we have no written constitution we have no constitution at all”

The reason why it is sometimes said that we have no constitution is because of the lack of proper understanding of what makes up our constitution and it also stems from imperfect knowledge of what is meant by a written constitution in other nations.
I will seek to show in this essay that the U.K & Northern Ireland constitution consists of written and unwritten rules, which makes up the British constitution. To say that it’s unwritten is grossly misleading.

First of all it needs to be established what generally is meant by a constitution. Constitutions are defined and distinguished in many ways. A particular and specific definition would mention a document or documents containing the laws that structure and give a basic foundation to the government. It refers to the powers and the arrangement of the institutions within the government. It may also refer to the type of government it is.
