“Does Paying a Fee for Psychotherapy Alter the Effectiveness of Treatment”

In the experiment put on by Carol Yoken and Jeffrey S. Berman the act of payment for a patience psychotherapy was studied. There were a couple of variables that were taken into account. One variable was that of the client having to pay a small fee for their services. The other client had no fee to pay to the psychoanalyst. In both situations the therapist was unaware of the payment amounts or lack thereof. In this experiment Yoken and Berman state, “psychotherapy has been determined in part by beliefs about the influence of fee payment on the outcome of treatment.” Basically the two psychologists are stating that the payment to the therapist is crucial to the success of the treatment session.
