“Discuss the similarities and differences in the poemsLoch ard Gorge and Summer Rain”

The two poems Loch ard Gorge and Summer Rain, by John Foulcher are a social portrait that explores the concept of human insensitivity and the destruction that occurs in nature. In comparing the similarities and differences in these two poems, the main thematic ideas are the superficial beauty of nature and conflict between humans and nature. These themes are demonstrated in the poem through language features and stylistic devices.
Conflict between modern society and nature is a main theme in Summer Rain. This is represented by the subdivision houses with regard to intrusion into nature during the creation of suburbia. The world of nature is not excluded from the poem but when it does intrude into this unnatural world, in the 4th and 5th lines, it does so with difficulty, where “Sunlight scrawls thought the dust and the fumes”.
