9 Stories

Nine Stories written by J.D. Salinger can be interpreted in many ways. Salinger the writer of Catcher in the Rye as well is known for including many symbols in his writings. The first two stories of the book A Perfect Day for Banana fish, and Uncle Wiggly in Connecticut both contain many of the symbols mentioned above. While Catcher in the Rye and Nine Stories vary greatly in content the some of the symbolism and the general system of writing is similar.

A Perfect Day for Banana Fish is a story about a man named Seymour Glass, who is trying to live after the traumatic experience of fighting in the world war of his time. Seymour Glass is married to a woman named Muriel. Glass is clear; the fact that their last name is Glass, can symbolize how their both trying to figure out their lives, and trying to make what is cloudy clear.
