Some conflicts in the novel are between the main character, Winston and his lover, Julia. Winston also has main conflict is with the government, known as Big Brother. He is against the Big Brother’s use of Telescreens and invasion of privacy of the people. The problem with Winston’s and Julia’s relationship is that the government trying to do away with love, by brainwashing the people by using fear. At the end of the story, Winston and Julia betray each other because they have been brainwashed with fear by O’Brien, a controller of the people. Winston had a big problem with Big Brother, the government, because they would not allow the people freedom, and they would always change the past by lying.
