Zoot Suits

While World War II was being fought overseas, there was another war happening on the United States home front. This war, however, involved the civilians and the inland military. It was due to a combination of the way things were overseas dealing with the war and the opinions of everyone in the U.S. concerning the post-Depression atmosphere. Such people who incorporated their opinions were those of different races than that of the whites. Since whites made up the majority of the people at the time living in the U.S., the fact that a group of ‘differently-raced’ people wanted to voice their own, unique opinion forced an outrage in racial riots and other events that involved the slurring of another’s culture or ethic group. This was especially the case in Los Angeles in the summer months of 1943.
