Young Goodman Brown

The time era is approximately a generation after the time of the witch trials.
Goodman Brown, a young Puritan, is about to go on an evil errand. His wife Faith asks him not to go but after talking with her he goes off.
His journey leads him down a dreary road to the forest and he suspects behind every tree something evil. In the forest he meets a traveller with a snakelike staff who is the devil himself.
Then both went deeper into the wood. After awhile Goodman Brown doesn’t want to go any further. He says that he comes from “a race of honest men and good Christians” and nobody of his ancestry has ever gone so deep into the forest. But the devil replies that he has already slashed a woman with his grandfather and set fire to an Indian village with his father. This shows that Brown doesn’t come from “good Christians”.
After this conversation they can see a female figure on the path. Goodman brown recognizes her as his former catechism teacher, Go...
