Year Eleven Coursework Syllabus 1BA01

A pilgrimage is a journey to a holy place, which helps people grow in the knowledge of God.
For example Muslims go to Mecca to visit the birthplace of Mohammed.
Jesus himself was a Jew so he understood the importance of pilgrimage and got involved with them. Jerusalem is a very holy city for Jews as this is one of the most famous towns associated with Jesus. Jesus took the trip to Jerusalem for the Passover and this is where he was arrested and killed.
Pilgrimage for the last two thousand years has been very important to Christians. Many of them wanted to visit the Holy Land and follow the steps of Jesus.

I will try to explain the various approaches to pilgrimage by referring to the popular Marian sites of Lourdes and Walsingham. Marian sites are places where the Virgin Mary has been sited, and Catholics ...
