LIBERTY BATTLESHIPS

Battleships were a very important part of the war. The ships were one the front lines subject to attack by bombers, kamikaze, battleships, submarines, mines and land based artillery. The Liberty was officially an EC2, at 441 feet long and 56 feet wide it was a very large ship. The Liberty had a three-cylinder reciprocating steam engine, fed by two oil burning boilers produced 2500 hp and a maximum speed of 11 knots. Because the Liberty ships would only go 11 knots they became easy prey for the submarines. On the Liberty there was five holds which could carry airplanes, tanks and other cargo. At one time the Liberty could carry 2480jeeps, 440 tank...
