Writing about characters

This section of the book starts out by having various writers write about their lives. Well, I read through Hemmingway’s section and I realized that hey was alternating references to himself between the second person and the first person and I was wondering why he did this. I was also wondering if he COULD do this. Just because he is a good writer is no reason for him to be able to switch tenses. Is this just something that I haven’t learned about yet, because I was under the impression that we weren’t to switch tenses in a piece. Maybe he was trying to reach some sort of desired effect, I’m not sure. I don’t even know if I care, it just seems contradictory to me.
As I went on to read James Baldwin, many things actually stuck out to me.
