World Mythology Assignment: ~Culture – Egyptian

-Creation Myth:

As the Nile River was vastly important to the Egyptians it should come as no surprise that water played a key role in their myths concerning creation. The creation of everything, in complete contrast to Greek mythology, was very simplistic. In the beginning there was only water, chaos itself. The water represented the entity known as Nu. Then came Atum, out of his own thoughts and willpower he created himself. Finding no place to stand he created the first hilltop and above the horizon of this first hilltop came the first sunrise. The sun was very important to the Egyptians and played a vital role in their lives, as it so did in the lives of the Greeks. The sun god was known as Ra, when rising known as Khepri, when setting known as Horus.

Out of the nothingness also came the sky god, Nut, and the Earth god, Geb. Geb is eternally lying above Nu, represented as holding a knee up to Nut as the mountains. Upon Geb all humanity bloomed.
