Women Set Aside

During the sixteenth century, a person’s outlook on marriage is very different than that of a person from the twentieth century. It is said, “During the Renaissance in England, religious wedding ceremonies were not as commonplace as they are today”(Wedding Ceremony). One small advancement is that arranged marriages are immensely decreasing among social acceptance. During the time of Shakespeare, chastity is extremely important to the people. It is almost necessary for a women to be sexually pure going into a marriage. There is no doubt that during the 16th century women fallowed a different set of rules regarding love, marriage, and chastity. During Shakespeare’s time period, couples were allowed freedom to “court or go on dates (using modern terms) to the market, church and church events, visit at each others homes, parks, barns, gardens, fields, and while on the job”(Wedding Ceremony).
