Women in Journalism

Journalism classes are hosting continually growing numbers of women, according to a recent study.
According to research conducted at the University, women now comprise 64.1 percent of journalism undergraduates.
However, while females are training in large numbers for careers in journalism and communication, they hold only 33 percent of journalism jobs, according to the research results.
"In American society, women are forced to assume primary childcare responsibility," said Lee Becker, journalism professor and director of the James M. Cox Jr. Center for International Mass Communication Training at the University. "Occupations that discourage this are less attractive to some women."
