Richard Rodriguez uses the book The Uses of Literacy, written by Richard Hoggart to describe the kind of student that he was. He interpreted Hoggart’s words to define who he believed he was and he agreed with what Hoggart said. He uses Hoggart's words to make the readers aware of “scholarship boys.”
