wolves

In the early 1900's the grey wolves were deliberately driven from existence in Yellowstone National Park. Partly due to the federal government which felt the same way as ranchers did at that time, which was that the wolves would kill a lot of livestock so therefor it was alright for ranchers and hunters to kill the grey wolf. This was to be beneficial to the up and coming way of life in the west. The wolves have been known to be a nuisance to ranchers as far back as the 1600's when settlers first arrived in Virginia (Britannica 2003). Ever since then the grey wolf has been pushed out of its territory; in search of new land and food.
In 1967 the grey wolf was added to the endangered species list (Encarta 2002). The problem with this is that at that time even though it was on this list it didn’t keep it from being hunted.
