Wizard of Oz and Star Wars.. same story?

The Wizard of Oz is everybody's cherished favorite; it’s a lasting fantasy film from the golden years. All of its images, characters, dialogue and music have become forever remembered. Star Wars is also a top pick among many viewers. Its action packed plot combined with its sci-fi basis has made it a favorite for lasting generations. By comparing and contrasting these two movies as fairy tales we will find they are basically the same stories. We will do this through the setting, main characters, and minor characters.
The Wizard of Oz and Star Wars both are set in arid settings. The Wizard of Oz is set in Kansas, while Star Wars is set in Tatooine. Two places that are very alike in both stories are The Death Star and the Witch's Castle, which are both dark and gloomy, inside and out. Also, the rebel base and the Emerald City are both very green.
