Conflict is a natural part of social interaction. This is because no individual, group or environment can progress and develop without some question, struggle and/or dispute. It is part of the daily negotiation of life. In his film making, Peter Weir recognizes the important presence and role of conflict to entertain inform and provoke thought. The film Witness employs a combination of film techniques in order to explore the multi-faceted nature of conflict.

In the movie it can be seen that Wier explores various forms of conflict and contrast. These forms include violent conflict, torment and inner struggle and the clash and contrast of two different worlds. During certain scenes the techniques used by the composer to show conflict are evident.
