witches in act 1 scene 1 of macbeth

During Act 4 scene 1 Shakespeare depicts the witches as agents of chaos by using the setting, the dark domain around them, which is a very dark cave. This is an appropriate setting for the witches, as it tends to represent the under-world and hell, creating a feeling of evil. Macbeth describes them as ‘secret, black and midnight hags’; this also indicates their evil nature.
The witches language involves them chanting rather disgusting actions which shows how evil they are, not only to humans but to any form of nature, ‘lizard’s leg and howlet’s wing’, ‘liver of blaspheming Jew’ and ‘finger of birth-strangle...
