Winter Dreams: Dexter Green

In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Winter Dreams, Dexter Green, neither a rich nor poor boy, strives for the best in life by abandoning solid and stable things in life for better but unstable opportunities. Throughout the story he strives for the best things in life, an education at Princeton, a partnership in a laundry, and a rich girl who everybody desires. He tries to get out of his present rung in society to a higher one, where people can have anything they want at anytime they want. He wants to be the center of attention at every party and meeting, and he wants to be admired and envied by everyone.
When Dexter is a teenager he already understands what he wants and how to get it. Working at the golf course one day, Dexter is mesmerized by a girl, Judy Jones, who is not pretty at the time, but will grow up to be beautiful.
