William Blake
(1757-1827)


Blake began life in the London area of Soho. In 1757 he was born the son of a hosier at 28 broad street. He entered into a lower-middle class family of five, him being a ‘middle-child’. As a child his father converted from the Church of England to Baptism. Which is thought to be a religion of the heart.
Blake began having ‘visions’ as a child. At the age of four he was known to have screamed when he saw God passing the window.
At the age of ten, Blake believed he had seen a tree filled with angels, with angelic wings. This was Blake's first visionary experience.
In the same year when Blake saw his first vision, he became interested in poetry and by the age of twelve, Blake began his first poetry book. His visions were his inspirations.
