Why We Should Keep the Death Penalty

The Death Penalty

“Crime in the United States accounts for more death, injuries, and loss of property than all natural disasters combined” (disastercenter.com). We know that crime in our country exists, and we are desperately trying to find a way to prevent it in the first place. In American society, the threat of capital punishment stands as the ultimate sentence for a criminal. Our country is one of the few in the entire world which continues to have capital punishment, but we as Americans strongly believe in its effects. Gallup polls in 1994 reached an overwhelming 80% in favor of the death penalty for a person convicted of murder. Opinions on the death penalty are still strong with 74% in favor today. But it is still a sensitive issue because there are multiple sides, good and bad effects and personal beliefs.
