In A Jury of Her Peers the story is set during the early 20th century, which was a time when women were expected to do what their husbands told them. In the story, Minnie Wright was a typical housewife married to a farmer. Her husband expected her to perform the womanly duties and that’s what she did. It didn’t matter if she had no friends or social life; the most important thing was that she stayed home. Minnie’s companions consisted of a canary bird and her sewing equipment. As a result, Minnie was miserable for the duration of her marriage to John Wright.
