Why is Oedipus punished? An essay on "Oedipus the king" by Sophocles.

Sophocles was probably the most important Greek writer of tragedies of all times. He was implicated in sports, politics, military, music, and that is why we often find these themes in his work. One of his most famous is Oedipus the King, a play in which a king is confronted to its past where he has killed his father and marry his mother. This play talks about several taboos of his and our society, it shows which values were the most important at that time and it teaches us that we can’t escape our destiny. So after reading this play, we can ask many questions related to these topics, but the one on which we are going to take a look at, is; why is Oedipus punished? There are two main factors that have conducted Oedipus to its exile; first, the fact that he run away from Corinth and the second is that he was responsible for the plague that was raging in the city and he has to pay for it.
