Why Did a Campaign for Women’s Suffrage Develop in the years after 1870?

In the years after 1870 a campaign for women’s suffrage developed, I think that the first move towards the start of the campaign was the reform acts of 1867 and 1884. These meant the extension of the vote to all male property owners, whereas before, the vote was only available to rich middle and upper class men. This reform meant that the vote was becoming more widely available, yet women still could not vote, this must have angered many women, thus starting the for the campaign for women’s suffrage.
There were many factors that contributed towards the development of the campaign, for instance in 1897 the MP Arthur Balfour admitted that the next reform of parliament would have to include votes for women. This would have been good for the campaign, as a MPs view is a very highly respectable one. Women were, around this time, about 1870, ...
