What’s In a Doll’s House?

In the play by, Henrik Ibsen, “A Doll’s House”, there can be many assumptions to the message the play is trying to convey. In the year this play was first conceived, 1879, women were to stay far in the shadows of their husbands. Their wives stood as mere dolls in the act of beauty and loyalty. I believe the message being sent to the readers will come across the many different out looks on women and how they are perceived in our society as pretty perfect flawless dolls. The title “A Doll’s House”, explores the findings of Nora becoming a victim of a self made environment which includes her husband, Helmer controlling her every move to convey a perfect image of marriage and control.
Nora and Helmer’s home is “tastefully but not expensively furnished” (Ibsen, 1765). The look of their home can be expressed of modern living conditions for their time period. Their home has enough of a look to put on to the public as a higher standing in society. This was important to ...
