What Patriotism Means to Me


President John F. Kennedy once said, “My fellow Americans …ask not what your

country can do for you…ask what you can do for your country.” These words still ring

true today . Patriotism is not just an emotion, but it requires action on the part of the

citizen. Staying informed, being willing to die for something you believe in, and

compassion for all people , reflect patriotism.

Learning about America’s history should come at an early age. Appreciation for what

America is blessed with comes from a knowledge of the sacrifices that were made.
