What is an American?

The definitions of an American are as diverse as the people who make up America itself. Due to the actions of our founding fathers and the creation of America, we can speak of an American as an “inhabitant”, but an American is so much more than just that.
What is an American? An American is not delineated by a particular skin color or way of life. He is a person from many places with many backgrounds and a colored past. He is not defined by brief physical features but by his belief that the doors of opportunity shall be opened to all who may knock upon them. He is recognized for his spirit and love of independence which exalts upon the threatening of its very existence by an aggressor.
