What have you found interesting about the nature and/or development of a character or characters in a novel you have studied?

In the novel we studied, “A Soldiers Tale” by M.K Joseph, I found the nature of the two main characters, Belle and Saul interesting because of how they thought, the actions they took and things they said. Saul was stationed near a small country village in Normandy, in the north of France in during WWII in 1944. In an isolated farmhouse, he meets a woman - Belle and moves in with her for the weekend while on leave. Saul becomes very fond of Belle but she is doomed to be arrested by three French resistance men for betraying their colleagues by becoming sexually involved with the German enemy.

Belle was a young French woman whose town was taken over by German soldiers during World War 2. Several features of Belle intrigue me. The first is the way she decided to sleep with the German soldiers who occupied her town and how she was able to continue doing it ...
