Prior to 1970 there were only three primary schools in the country, six miles of paved roads, and it was estimated that over 50% of the workforce was practicing in the agricultural sector, almost all on subsistence level. Since 1970 Oman has become an oil-rich nation, and typically labor migration, to make up their workforce, has been a very important part of oil-rich economies.
