WEAKNESS AND PASSION IN MACBETH


Passion.
It lies in all of us.
Sleeping, waiting
And though unwanted - unbidden
It will stir
Open its jaws, and howl
It speaks to us.
Guides us.
Passion rules us all.
And we obey.
What other choice do we have?
It hurts sometimes more than we can bear.
If we could live without passion,
Maybe we'd know some kind of peace.
But we would be hollow.
Empty rooms,
Shuttered and dank...
Without passion,
We’d be truly dead


There have been many thoughts on the two opposing passions in Shakspeare’s play Macbeth, Ambition and courage, fear and hardiness, cowardice and rash audacity, bravery and fear and fear and fury.
While there is evidence that these do play a part in the play, I believe the ones that shine through and are the most prominent are weakness and passion. In essence weakness and passion can be seen as the same thing, someone’s weakness could be their passion, and someone’s passion could be their weakness. When I say...
