Was the settliong of the British in the colonial period economic or religious concerns?

Throughout the colonial period, the settling of the British North America was based on economic motives rather than that of religious concerns. The simple fact that people were seperating from the rul eof the churches to gain freedom revealed how peopl had to live to survive. The population could no longer have the backbone of teh churchto keep things equal, but rather people began tto fight foir their personal wants.
