In the early fifties, many African Americans were still being forced to use separate and inferior schools. They were forced to use separate public facilities. Especially in the south, city buses, restaurants, hotels, public bathrooms and public water fountains were segregated. On May 17th ,1954, the Supreme Court had ruled in Brown vs. Board of Education that the legal separation of blacks and whites in schools was illegal. The case is based on a young girl by the name of Linda Brown, who lived minutes from a public school. Because of her skin color, was forced to travel by bus everyday five miles to a school designated for blacks. This case forever changed the lives of nine African Americans teenagers and every black teenager there after in America. People in fifties, sixties, and even still today judge an African American based on their skin color. Some people, throughout ...
